Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Healthcare and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty declined 0.59%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.70%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN), which rose 2.37% or 2.15 points to trade at 92.90 at the close. Meanwhile, UltraTech Cement Ltd (NSE:ULTC) added 2.33% or 64.15 points to end at 2817.65 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) was up 1.69% or 4.00 points to 240.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Reliance Industries Ltd (NSE:RELI), which fell 2.70% or 24.70 points to trade at 889.10 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NSE:GAIL) declined 2.41% or 7.55 points to end at 305.50 and ITC Ltd (NSE:ITC) was down 2.35% or 8.15 points to 339.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 2.37% to 92.85, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was up 1.56% to settle at 240.50 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which gained 0.57% to close at 203.85.
The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 2.70% to 889.15 in late trade, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which lost 2.52% to settle at 305.25 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 2.06% to 339.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 815 to 615 and 15 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 445 fell and 313 advanced, while 3 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 1.16% to 19.5625.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.37% or 4.30 to $1144.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.15% or 0.07 to hit $47.88 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.11% or 0.06 to trade at $51.38 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.22% to 65.091, while EUR/INR rose 0.77% to 73.5030.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.38% at 95.28.
