Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 2.00%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS), which rose 2.79% or 123.00 points to trade at 4536.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Carnival (LONDON:CCL) added 1.71% or 50.00 points to end at 2980.00 and Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT) was up 1.46% or 17.00 points to 1182.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Petrofac (LONDON:PFC), which fell 6.47% or 46.00 points to trade at 665.00 at the close. Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR) declined 6.32% or 119.00 points to end at 1764.00 and BP Plc (LONDON:BP) was down 5.05% or 20.75 points to 389.70.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1420 to 676 and 391 ended unchanged.
Shares in Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT) rose to 52 week highs; rising 1.46% or 17.00 to 1182.00.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.83% or 9.90 to $1196.10 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.63% or 2.44 to hit $50.25 a barrel, while the February brent oil contract fell 5.84% or 3.29 to trade at $53.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.62% to 1.5232, while EUR/GBP fell 0.12% to 0.7822.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.38% at 91.81.
