Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 1.30%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Next Plc (LONDON:NXT), which rose 3.22% or 210.00 points to trade at 6725.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES) added 2.54% or 19.00 points to end at 768.50 and Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS) was up 2.17% or 92.00 points to 4336.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Royal Mail (LONDON:RMG), which fell 3.59% or 15.90 points to trade at 426.60 at the close. Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR) declined 3.17% or 61.00 points to end at 1866.00 and Sabmiller (LONDON:SAB) was down 2.89% or 98.50 points to 3313.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1219 to 788 and 363 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.92% or 22.70 to $1204.60 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.21% or 0.11 to hit $53.50 a barrel, while the February brent oil contract fell 0.99% or 0.57 to trade at $57.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.26% to 1.5561, while EUR/GBP fell 0.15% to 0.7820.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.39% at 90.19.
