Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Construction & Materials and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.33%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW), which rose 3.12% or 12.70 points to trade at 419.70 at the close. Meanwhile, CRH (LONDON:CRH) added 3.11% or 47.00 points to end at 1559.00 and Morrison(Wm.)Supermarkets (LONDON:MRW) was up 2.50% or 4.40 points to 180.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Shire Plc (LONDON:SHP), which fell 2.81% or 131.00 points to trade at 4533.00 at the close. Astrazeneca Plc (LONDON:AZN) declined 1.88% or 86.50 points to end at 4516.50 and Smith & Nephew (LONDON:SN) was down 1.72% or 19.00 points to 1089.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1287 to 728 and 387 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.13% or 1.50 to $1178.30 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.70% or 0.94 to hit $56.20 a barrel, while the February brent oil contract rose 1.11% or 0.67 to trade at $60.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.43% to 1.5523, while EUR/GBP rose 0.06% to 0.7849.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 90.24.
