Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Health Care Equipment & Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Admiral Group Plc (LONDON:ADML), which rose 2.29% or 30.00 points to trade at 1339.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Compass Group (LONDON:CPG) added 1.93% or 21.00 points to end at 1107.00 and BAE Systems (LONDON:BAES) was up 1.86% or 8.60 points to 471.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS), which fell 6.34% or 281.00 points to trade at 4150.00 at the close. Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW) declined 4.05% or 17.20 points to end at 407.00 and Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES) was down 3.38% or 25.00 points to 714.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1342 to 719 and 365 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was down 1.33% or 15.90 to $1180.10 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.85% or 1.63 to hit $55.50 a barrel, while the February brent oil contract fell 1.83% or 1.12 to trade at $60.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.08% to 1.5616, while EUR/GBP rose 0.21% to 0.7840.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.02% at 89.81.
