Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 1.23%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW), which rose 6.85% or 27.20 points to trade at 424.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Tesco (LONDON:TSCO) added 5.46% or 9.60 points to end at 185.40 and Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS) was up 4.41% or 187.00 points to 4431.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Scottish & Southern Energy Plc (LONDON:SSE), which fell 1.46% or 24.00 points to trade at 1624.00 at the close. Smiths Group (LONDON:SMIN) declined 1.29% or 14.00 points to end at 1072.00 and SKY PLC (LONDON:SKYB) was down 1.22% or 11.00 points to 889.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1395 to 663 and 336 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.16% or 1.90 to $1196.70 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February rose 3.38% or 1.84 to hit $56.20 a barrel, while the February brent oil contract rose 2.20% or 1.30 to trade at $60.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.40% to 1.5609, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.7835.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.44% at 89.84.
