Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology Hardware & Equipment, Construction & Materials and Automobiles & Parts sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 2.04%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Old Mutual Plc (LONDON:OML), which rose 5.68% or 10.20 points to trade at 189.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Aberdeen Asset Management Plc (LONDON:ADN) added 5.58% or 22.80 points to end at 431.40 and Sabmiller (LONDON:SAB) was up 5.58% or 178.50 points to 3374.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Coca Cola HBC AG (LONDON:CCH), which fell 1.61% or 20.0 points to trade at 1222.0 at the close. Glencore Xstrata Plc (LONDON:GLEN) declined 0.84% or 2.45 points to end at 290.00 and United Utilities Group Plc (LONDON:UU) was down 0.38% or 3.50 points to 914.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1631 to 449 and 322 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.03% or 0.30 to $1194.80 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.60% or 0.91 to hit $55.88 a barrel, while the February brent oil contract fell 1.66% or 1.01 to trade at $60.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.54% to 1.5660, while EUR/GBP fell 0.97% to 0.7846.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.20% at 89.45.
