Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.07%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW), which rose 3.59% or 13.70 points to trade at 395.10 at the close. Meanwhile, BP Plc (LONDON:BP) added 3.54% or 13.60 points to end at 397.55 and BG Group (LONDON:BG) was up 3.32% or 27.50 points to 854.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were International Airlines Group (LONDON:ICAG), which fell 4.02% or 18.60 points to trade at 443.60 at the close. Mondi Plc (LONDON:MNDI) declined 3.18% or 33.00 points to end at 1004.00 and WPP Plc (LONDON:WPP) was down 2.51% or 33.00 points to 1280.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1036 to 1012 and 343 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.04% or 0.50 to $1194.80 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February rose 4.11% or 2.31 to hit $58.58 a barrel, while the February brent oil contract rose 4.69% or 2.81 to trade at $62.83 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.57% to 1.5659, while EUR/GBP fell 0.25% to 0.7924.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.77% at 88.74.
