Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mining and Tobacco sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.22% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Standard Chartered (LONDON:STAN), which rose 6.49% or 69.50 points to trade at 1141.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Petrofac (LONDON:PFC) added 4.92% or 46.00 points to end at 982.00 and Bhp Billiton (LONDON:BLT) was up 3.38% or 52.00 points to 1591.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Burberry Group (LONDON:BRBY), which fell 2.56% or 48.00 points to trade at 1828.00 at the close. GKN (LONDON:GKN) declined 2.21% or 8.30 points to end at 367.30 and Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR) was down 2.17% or 40.00 points to 1801.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1131 to 1027 and 333 ended unchanged.
Gold for April delivery was up 0.17% or 2.00 to $1186.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in May rose 0.39% or 0.18 to hit $46.75 a barrel, while the May Brent Oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.06 to trade at $55.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.4930, while EUR/GBP rose 1.11% to 0.7312.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.60% at 97.46.
