Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Industrial Metals & Mining and Tobacco sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.51%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Weir Group (LONDON:WEIR), which rose 4.08% or 74.00 points to trade at 1887.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Glencore Xstrata Plc (LONDON:GLEN) added 2.56% or 7.40 points to end at 296.90 and Standard Chartered (LONDON:STAN) was up 1.95% or 20.00 points to 1044.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were CRH (LONDON:CRH), which fell 3.90% or 70.00 points to trade at 1727.00 at the close. Experian Plc (LONDON:EXPN) declined 2.27% or 27.00 points to end at 1160.00 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LONDON:RBS) was down 2.21% or 8.30 points to 367.80.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1349 to 715 and 413 ended unchanged.
Gold for April delivery was up 0.17% or 2.00 to $1166.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in April rose 1.39% or 0.69 to hit $50.30 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 1.84% or 1.10 to trade at $58.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.56% to 1.5121, while EUR/GBP fell 0.46% to 0.7178.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.10% at 97.64.
