Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Food & Drug Retailers and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.90%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS), which rose 4.89% or 265.00 points to trade at 5685.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES) added 4.23% or 36.50 points to end at 899.00 and Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW) was up 4.02% or 14.10 points to 365.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were International Airlines Group (LONDON:ICAG), which fell 3.46% or 19.50 points to trade at 544.50 at the close. Sainsbury(J) (LONDON:SBRY) declined 3.18% or 8.40 points to end at 255.40 and Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT) was down 2.77% or 31.00 points to 1088.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1237 to 847 and 354 ended unchanged.
Shares in International Airlines Group (LONDON:ICAG) fell to all time highs; down 3.46% or 19.50 to 544.50.
Gold for April delivery was up 1.61% or 20.20 to $1276.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in March rose 1.66% or 0.74 to hit $45.27 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract rose 0.66% or 0.33 to trade at $49.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.23% to 1.5031, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.7512.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 95.08.
