Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Technology Hardware & Equipment, Construction & Materials and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.79%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS), which rose 4.87% or 221.00 points to trade at 4757.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES) added 2.86% or 22.00 points to end at 790.50 and Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) was up 2.53% or 28.50 points to 1155.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT), which fell 6.18% or 73.00 points to trade at 1109.00 at the close. ARM Holdings (LONDON:ARM) declined 4.41% or 43.50 points to end at 943.50 and Kingfisher (LONDON:KGF) was down 3.44% or 11.30 points to 316.80.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1481 to 625 and 334 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.15% or 13.90 to $1217.90 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.14% or 2.07 to hit $47.97 a barrel, while the February brent oil contract fell 3.66% or 1.95 to trade at $51.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.44% to 1.5183, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.7863.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 91.58.
