Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Tobacco, Beverages and Health Care Equipment & Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.60% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Diageo (LONDON:DGE), which rose 2.50% or 46.00 points to trade at 1885.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Imperial Tobacco Group (LONDON:IMT) added 2.20% or 66.00 points to end at 3063.00 and British American Tobacco (LONDON:BATS) was up 1.92% or 69.00 points to 3663.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW), which fell 3.36% or 14.10 points to trade at 406.10 at the close. Royal Mail (LONDON:RMG) declined 2.32% or 10.40 points to end at 437.60 and Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS) was down 1.67% or 85.00 points to 5005.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1023 to 1000 and 407 ended unchanged.
Gold for April delivery was down 1.92% or 23.60 to $1203.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in April fell 2.16% or 1.16 to hit $52.51 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 0.56% or 0.34 to trade at $61.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.14% to 1.5343, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.7426.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 94.25.
