Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Automobiles & Parts and Electricity sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.63%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Admiral Group Plc (LONDON:ADML), which rose 4.68% or 64.00 points to trade at 1432.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Morrison(Wm.)Supermarkets (LONDON:MRW) added 4.47% or 7.90 points to end at 184.80 and International Airlines Group (LONDON:ICAG) was up 4.22% or 19.80 points to 489.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW), which fell 4.65% or 18.00 points to trade at 368.90 at the close. Glencore Xstrata Plc (LONDON:GLEN) declined 3.76% or 10.50 points to end at 268.95 and Ashtead Group (LONDON:AHT) was down 2.95% or 33.00 points to 1084.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1318 to 803 and 350 ended unchanged.
Shares in Glencore Xstrata Plc (LONDON:GLEN) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.76% or 10.50 to 268.95.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.31% or 3.80 to $1236.60 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in February fell 0.82% or 0.38 to hit $45.69 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract fell 2.60% or 1.26 to trade at $47.44 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.07% to 1.5161, while EUR/GBP fell 0.41% to 0.7768.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.24% at 92.46.
