Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Forestry & Paper sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.11%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were GKN (LONDON:GKN), which rose 3.17% or 10.70 points to trade at 348.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Compass Group (LONDON:CPG) added 2.59% or 28.00 points to end at 1109.00 and ARM Holdings (LONDON:ARM) was up 1.99% or 19.50 points to 998.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Scottish & Southern Energy Plc (LONDON:SSE), which fell 5.77% or 92.00 points to trade at 1503.00 at the close. Petrofac (LONDON:PFC) declined 4.33% or 27.50 points to end at 608.00 and BG Group (LONDON:BG) was down 3.63% or 30.10 points to 800.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1139 to 909 and 408 ended unchanged.
Shares in Petrofac (LONDON:PFC) fell to 5 years lows; down 4.33% or 27.50 to 608.00.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.08% or 13.10 to $1229.20 a troy ounce.
Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.95% or 1.91 to hit $46.45 a barrel, while the March brent oil contract fell 4.61% or 2.37 to trade at $48.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.08% to 1.5170, while EUR/GBP fell 0.27% to 0.7793.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 92.28.
