Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Shipbuilding and Paper & Pulp sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.45%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:3086), which rose 8.65% or 139.0 points to trade at 1746.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Nitto Denko Co (T:6988) added 3.77% or 340.0 points to end at 9363.0 and Hitachi Construction Machinery Co (T:6305) was up 3.45% or 94.0 points to 2817.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which fell 3.49% or 10.0 points to trade at 276.6 at the close. Kuraray Co., Ltd. (T:3405) declined 2.23% or 47.0 points to end at 2064.0 and Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865) was down 2.09% or 19.0 points to 892.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2348 to 820 and 294 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.63% to 14.06.
Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.78% or 0.35 to $45.09 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.63% or 0.30 to hit $47.84 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.16% or 1.95 to trade at $1247.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.27% to 112.59, while EUR/JPY rose 0.68% to 128.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 95.50.
