Investing.com – Taiwan stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , Semiconductor and Optoelectronic sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted declined 1.65%.
The best performers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Carnival Industrial Corp (TW:1417), which rose 9.96% or 0.51 points to trade at 5.63 at the close. Meanwhile, Teapo Electronic Corp (TW:2375) added 9.57% or 3.30 points to end at 37.80 and Jye Tai Precision Industrial Co Ltd (TW:6165) was up 9.41% or 0.80 points to 9.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Eclat Textile Co Ltd (TW:1476), which fell 9.89% or 36.50 points to trade at 332.50 at the close. Nanya Technology Corp (TW:2408) declined 8.23% or 5.10 points to end at 56.90 and Global Unichip Corp (TW:3443) was down 7.87% or 17.00 points to 199.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 671 to 175 and 60 ended unchanged.
Crude oil for January delivery was down 1.28% or 0.68 to $52.57 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 1.35% or 0.84 to hit $61.24 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.43% or 5.35 to trade at $1241.25 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was up 0.11% to 30.805, while TWD/CNY rose 0.32% to 0.2225.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 97.062.
