Investing.com – Taiwan stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , Iron & Steel and Optoelectronic sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted lost 0.42%.
The best performers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Action Electronics Co Ltd (TW:3024), which rose 9.92% or 0.700 points to trade at 7.760 at the close. Meanwhile, Merry Electronics Co Ltd (TW:2439) added 9.91% or 21.00 points to end at 233.00 and Sumagh High Tech Corp (TW:1475) was up 9.91% or 3.25 points to 36.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Powertech Technology Inc (TW:6239), which fell 5.00% or 5.20 points to trade at 98.80 at the close. Taisun Enterprise Co Ltd (TW:1218) declined 4.79% or 1.15 points to end at 22.85 and Jung Shing Wire Co Ltd (TW:1617) was down 4.74% or 0.55 points to 11.05.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 448 to 302 and 131 ended unchanged.
Shares in Merry Electronics Co Ltd (TW:2439) rose to all time highs; gaining 9.91% or 21.00 to 233.00. Shares in Sumagh High Tech Corp (TW:1475) rose to 5-year highs; up 9.91% or 3.25 to 36.05.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.98% or 0.47 to $48.36 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.78% or 0.39 to hit $50.59 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.59% or 7.39 to trade at $1244.71 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was up 0.05% to 30.368, while TWD/CNY fell 0.09% to 0.2222.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 94.03.
