Investing.com – South Africa stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrials, Financials & Industrials and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Johannesburg, the FTSE/JSE Top 40 lost 1.40%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE/JSE Top 40 were AngloGold Ashanti Ltd (JO:ANGJ), which rose 3.30% or 364 points to trade at 11400 at the close. Meanwhile, Assore Ltd (JO:ASRJ) added 2.17% or 229 points to end at 10779 and Shoprite Holdings Ltd (JO:SHPJ) was up 0.60% or 100 points to 16800 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Naspers Ltd (JO:NPNJn), which fell 4.71% or 9104 points to trade at 183996 at the close. Steinhoff International Holdings (JO:SHFJ) declined 2.99% or 230 points to end at 7527 and Reinet (JO:REIJ) was down 2.52% or 66.00 points to 2580.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange by 173 to 71 and 12 ended unchanged.
Crude oil for August delivery was down 1.91% or 1.14 to $58.49 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 2.02% or 1.27 to hit $61.98 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.33% or 3.90 to trade at $1177.10 a troy ounce.
USD/ZAR was up 0.64% to 12.2784, while EUR/ZAR rose 0.83% to 13.7356.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.32% at 95.30.
