Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms Services, IT and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.04%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd (ASX:LNG), which rose 8.97% or 0.350 points to trade at 4.250 at the close. Meanwhile, Skilled Group Ltd (ASX:SKE) added 7.12% or 0.110 points to end at 1.655 and Corp Trav F (ASX:CTD) was up 5.03% or 0.530 points to 11.060 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT), which fell 8.80% or 3.300 points to trade at 34.210 at the close. Seven West Media Ltd (ASX:SWM) declined 5.75% or 0.065 points to end at 1.065 and Slater & Gordon Ltd (ASX:SGH) was down 5.55% or 0.360 points to 6.130.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 545 to 520 and 207 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.90% to 15.167.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.12% or 1.40 to $1178.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.11% or 0.07 to hit $61.08 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $64.47 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.07% to 0.7730, while AUD/JPY fell 0.10% to 95.78.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.21% at 95.41.
