Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Real Estate and Insurance sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 5.73% to hit a new 6-months low.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NH Foods Ltd (TYO:2282), which rose 6.99% or 330.00 points to trade at 5,053.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Konami Corp. (TYO:9766) added 2.84% or 315.00 points to end at 11,420.00 and Astellas Pharma Inc. (TYO:4503) was up 1.81% or 31.00 points to 1,745.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Daiwa Securities Group Inc. (TYO:8601), which fell 18.85% or 231.90 points to trade at 998.60 at the close. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) declined 13.48% or 1,620.00 points to end at 10,395.00 and SUMCO Corp. (TYO:3436) was down 12.34% or 301.00 points to 2,138.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 3805 to 69 and 21 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.75% to 21.39.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.81% or 0.62 to $76.93 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.77% or 0.61 to hit $80.13 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 1.23% or 30.50 to trade at $2,511.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.30% to 148.90, while EUR/JPY fell 0.24% to 160.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 104.01.
