Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Pharmaceutical Industry and Rubber sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 2.51%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nichirei Corp. (TYO:2871), which rose 6.34% or 224.00 points to trade at 3,755.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9503) added 3.33% or 90.50 points to end at 2,806.00 and Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. (TYO:2502) was up 3.27% or 186.00 points to 5,880.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035), which fell 8.75% or 2,920.00 points to trade at 30,470.00 at the close. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) declined 8.41% or 1,245.00 points to end at 13,560.00 and Hoya Cor (TYO:7741) was down 7.49% or 1,560.00 points to 19,265.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2389 to 1250 and 232 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.50% to 17.91.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.81% or 0.66 to $82.10 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.68% or 0.58 to hit $85.66 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.54% or 13.20 to trade at $2,473.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.06% to 156.26, while EUR/JPY fell 0.05% to 170.81.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 103.49.
