Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Railway & Bus and Construction sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 2.21% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976), which rose 5.01% or 155.0 points to trade at 3250.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Fujitsu Ltd. (T:6702) added 2.35% or 15.8 points to end at 687.6 and SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (T:9412) was up 1.89% or 10.0 points to 538.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911), which fell 6.29% or 553.0 points to trade at 8245.0 at the close. Kikkoman Corp. (T:2801) declined 6.26% or 350.0 points to end at 5240.0 and Aeon Co., Ltd. (T:8267) was down 5.68% or 134.5 points to 2235.5.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2943 to 511 and 135 ended unchanged.
Shares in Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.01% or 155.0 to 3250.0. Shares in SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (T:9412) rose to 52-week highs; up 1.89% or 10.0 to 538.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.46% to 19.40.
Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.43% or 0.32 to $73.83 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 1.03% or 0.82 to hit $78.41 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.37% or 4.60 to trade at $1249.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.02% to 110.75, while EUR/JPY fell 0.35% to 128.93.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 94.53.
