Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Warehousing and Fishery sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 2.01%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd. (TYO:3382), which rose 22.71% or 400.00 points to trade at 2,161.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) added 7.04% or 39.00 points to end at 593.00 and Nitori Holdings Co Ltd (TYO:9843) was up 2.70% or 525.00 points to 19,985.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ebara Corp. (TYO:6361), which fell 5.98% or 124.50 points to trade at 1,959.00 at the close. Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) declined 5.53% or 140.00 points to end at 2,392.00 and Murata Mfg Co (TYO:6981) was down 4.59% or 141.50 points to 2,942.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2709 to 988 and 186 ended unchanged.
Shares in Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) rose to 52-week highs; up 7.04% or 39.00 to 593.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.61% to 26.54.
Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.61% or 0.46 to $75.08 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.54% or 0.43 to hit $79.25 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.17% or 4.30 to trade at $2,542.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 1.47% to 145.40, while EUR/JPY fell 1.34% to 160.58.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 101.91.
