Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 2.01%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kirin Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2503), which rose 2.27% or 56.0 points to trade at 2519.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Sekisui House, Ltd. (T:1928) added 1.42% or 24.0 points to end at 1709.0 and Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) was up 0.62% or 17.0 points to 2769.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (T:9107), which fell 12.63% or 198.0 points to trade at 1370.0 at the close. Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202) declined 5.80% or 53.0 points to end at 861.0 and Advantest Corp. (T:6857) was down 5.67% or 152.0 points to 2531.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 3316 to 309 and 101 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.19% to 18.12.
Crude oil for April delivery was down 0.92% or 0.52 to $56.14 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in May fell 1.16% or 0.77 to hit $65.53 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.62% or 7.95 to trade at $1294.05 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.48% to 111.05, while EUR/JPY fell 0.33% to 124.47.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 97.412.
