Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Rubber, Transportation Equipment and Machinery sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.54%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Taisei Corp. (TYO:1801), which rose 1.68% or 70.00 points to trade at 4,225.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Kajima Corp. (TYO:1812) added 1.57% or 24.00 points to end at 1,557.00 and Keio Corp. (TYO:9008) was up 1.25% or 60.00 points to 4,855.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735), which fell 5.37% or 520.00 points to trade at 9,170.00 at the close. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) declined 4.65% or 225.00 points to end at 4,610.00 and IHI Corp. (TYO:7013) was down 4.35% or 165.00 points to 3,630.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2498 to 1053 and 227 ended unchanged.
Shares in Taisei Corp. (TYO:1801) rose to 52-week highs; up 1.68% or 70.00 to 4,225.00. Shares in Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.65% or 225.00 to 4,610.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 4.18% to 22.66.
Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.30% or 0.33 to $109.45 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.20% or 0.22 to hit $112.23 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.01% or 0.15 to trade at $1,817.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.33% to 136.13, while EUR/JPY fell 0.20% to 142.29.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 104.74.
