Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Paper & Pulp and Finance & Investment sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.52% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (T:3099), which rose 1.82% or 24.0 points to trade at 1346.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) added 1.22% or 55.0 points to end at 4550.0 and Softbank Corp. (T:9984) was up 0.71% or 54.5 points to 7747.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ube Industries, Ltd. (T:4208), which fell 4.80% or 160.0 points to trade at 3170.0 at the close. Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (T:5802) declined 3.73% or 63.5 points to end at 1641.0 and Tosoh Corp. (T:4042) was down 3.66% or 71.0 points to 1871.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2762 to 634 and 162 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.96% to 15.99.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.10% or 0.07 to $66.80 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $75.45 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.05% or 0.70 to trade at $1298.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.13% to 108.63, while EUR/JPY rose 0.41% to 126.00.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 94.47.
