Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Communication and Glass sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.33%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Ebara Corp. (T:6361), which rose 12.56% or 415.0 points to trade at 3720.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002) added 8.09% or 149.0 points to end at 1990.0 and JGC Corp. (T:1963) was up 6.20% or 131.0 points to 2243.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976), which fell 6.39% or 204.0 points to trade at 2986.0 at the close. GS Yuasa Corp. (T:6674) declined 5.82% or 31.0 points to end at 502.0 and Advantest Corp. (T:6857) was down 4.89% or 130.0 points to 2530.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2458 to 953 and 201 ended unchanged.
Shares in Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002) rose to all time highs; rising 8.09% or 149.0 to 1990.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.92% to 14.32 a new 1-month low.
Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.30% or 0.20 to $66.61 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.17% or 0.12 to hit $71.95 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.37% or 4.50 to trade at $1215.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.22% to 110.84, while EUR/JPY fell 0.87% to 126.94.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.50% at 95.94.
