Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Glass, Electrical/Machinery and Machinery sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.11%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Dentsu Inc. (T:4324), which rose 4.04% or 200.0 points to trade at 5150.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713) added 2.25% or 116.0 points to end at 5270.0 and Tokyu Corp. (T:9005) was up 1.71% or 32.0 points to 1904.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sony Corp (T:6758), which fell 3.55% or 193.0 points to trade at 5249.0 at the close. Kikkoman Corp. (T:2801) declined 3.44% or 160.0 points to end at 4485.0 and J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:3086) was down 3.20% or 67.0 points to 2025.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2291 to 1096 and 190 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tokyu Corp. (T:9005) rose to 52-week highs; up 1.71% or 32.0 to 1904.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.05% to 16.33.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.88% or 0.58 to $66.19 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.51% or 0.36 to hit $70.89 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.30% or 4.10 to trade at $1360.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.12% to 109.09, while EUR/JPY fell 0.03% to 135.50.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 88.92.
