Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Power, Shipbuilding and Automobiles & Parts sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.04%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:4503), which rose 3.60% or 55.8 points to trade at 1604.3 at the close. Meanwhile, JGC Corp. (T:1963) added 1.54% or 35.0 points to end at 2312.0 and The Kansai Electric Power Co. (T:9503) was up 1.07% or 13.5 points to 1280.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sony Corp (T:6758), which fell 4.23% or 227.0 points to trade at 5144.0 at the close. Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T:6506) declined 3.78% or 195.0 points to end at 4965.0 and Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (T:4021) was down 2.87% or 125.0 points to 4235.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2841 to 616 and 125 ended unchanged.
Shares in Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:4503) rose to 52-week highs; up 3.60% or 55.8 to 1604.3.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.37% to 21.79.
Crude oil for May delivery was down 0.30% or 0.19 to $62.22 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in May fell 0.32% or 0.21 to hit $66.00 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.19% or 2.50 to trade at $1309.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.22% to 105.78, while EUR/JPY fell 0.33% to 129.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 89.85.
