Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Gas & Water, Warehousing and Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.60%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were IHI Corp. (T:7013), which rose 2.72% or 90.0 points to trade at 3395.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233) added 2.08% or 75.0 points to end at 3675.0 and Ricoh Co., Ltd. (T:7752) was up 2.02% or 23.0 points to 1164.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501), which fell 3.86% or 29.0 points to trade at 722.0 at the close. Toyo Seikan Group Holdings, Ltd. (T:5901) declined 3.67% or 93.0 points to end at 2441.0 and Toho Co., Ltd. (T:9602) was down 3.52% or 140.0 points to 3840.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2212 to 1289 and 201 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.31% to 19.54 a new 1-month low.
Crude oil for March delivery was down 1.79% or 0.96 to $52.73 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 1.74% or 1.07 to hit $60.52 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.13% or 1.75 to trade at $1299.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.13% to 109.39, while EUR/JPY fell 0.22% to 124.65.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 95.572.
