Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Gas & Water, Railway & Bus and Warehousing sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.32%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Pioneer Corp. (T:6773), which rose 4.07% or 5.0 points to trade at 128.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) added 3.17% or 91.0 points to end at 2960.0 and Taisei Corp. (T:1801) was up 2.50% or 125.0 points to 5130.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Familymart Ltd (T:8028), which fell 11.27% or 1300.0 points to trade at 10230.0 at the close. Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T:5706) declined 5.05% or 165.0 points to end at 3100.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) was down 3.02% or 59.0 points to 1897.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2331 to 1055 and 215 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T:5706) fell to 52-week lows; down 5.05% or 165.0 to 3100.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.71% to 17.24.
Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.23% or 0.15 to $65.36 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.67% or 0.48 to hit $72.31 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.95% or 11.20 to trade at $1195.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.11% to 110.63, while EUR/JPY fell 0.09% to 126.29.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 96.16.
