Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.20%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202), which rose 11.81% or 79.0 points to trade at 748.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Tokyo Dome Corp. (T:9681) added 3.98% or 42.0 points to end at 1098.0 and Rakuten Inc (T:4755) was up 3.10% or 29.0 points to 963.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Nikon Corp. (T:7731), which fell 4.90% or 70.0 points to trade at 1359.0 at the close. Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:4503) declined 2.72% or 52.0 points to end at 1857.5 and Fanuc Corp. (T:6954) was down 2.19% or 460.0 points to 20570.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1844 to 1685 and 272 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 13.22.
Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.10% or 0.06 to $61.12 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 0.11% or 0.07 to hit $66.61 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.08% or 1.25 to trade at $1483.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.09% to 109.27, while EUR/JPY fell 0.12% to 121.47.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 97.025.
