Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Power and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 2.53%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755), which rose 7.34% or 56.50 points to trade at 826.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Nidec Corp (TYO:6594) added 5.91% or 328.00 points to end at 5,875.00 and Lasertec Corp (TYO:6920) was up 5.87% or 2,240.00 points to 40,370.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501), which fell 14.30% or 138.20 points to trade at 828.00 at the close. Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9502) declined 3.01% or 61.00 points to end at 1,968.50 and Teijin Ltd. (TYO:3401) was down 1.36% or 19.00 points to 1,374.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2743 to 932 and 213 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.17% to 20.33.
Crude oil for May delivery was up 0.50% or 0.40 to $80.98 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 0.42% or 0.36 to hit $85.70 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.50% or 10.85 to trade at $2,150.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.08% to 149.13, while EUR/JPY rose 0.07% to 162.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 103.08.
