Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Gas & Water, Electrical/Machinery and Marine Transport sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 2.36%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsubishi Electric Corp (TYO:6503), which rose 14.52% or 243.50 points to trade at 1,921.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corp (TYO:4188) added 9.88% or 83.80 points to end at 931.90 and Daiwa Securities Group Inc. (TYO:8601) was up 9.69% or 83.70 points to 947.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which fell 5.90% or 225.00 points to trade at 3,590.00 at the close. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) declined 5.87% or 27.00 points to end at 433.00 and NH Foods Ltd (TYO:2282) was down 4.77% or 216.00 points to 4,314.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2512 to 1148 and 209 ended unchanged.
Shares in Daiwa Securities Group Inc. (TYO:8601) rose to 5-year highs; up 9.69% or 83.70 to 947.70.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 4.96% to 23.71.
Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.63% or 0.51 to $81.53 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.75% or 0.64 to hit $85.66 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.34% or 6.75 to trade at $1,987.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.25% to 151.29, while EUR/JPY fell 0.29% to 159.94.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 106.54.
