Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Textile and Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 2.29%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4063), which rose 8.57% or 540.00 points to trade at 6,844.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) added 7.56% or 63.50 points to end at 903.80 and SUMCO Corp. (TYO:3436) was up 6.94% or 162.50 points to 2,503.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:4523), which fell 12.98% or 860.00 points to trade at 5,768.00 at the close. Hitachi Construction Machinery Co (TYO:6305) declined 9.54% or 397.00 points to end at 3,764.00 and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) was down 7.26% or 925.00 points to 11,810.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 3168 to 542 and 162 ended unchanged.
Shares in Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:4523) fell to 52-week lows; falling 12.98% or 860.00 to 5,768.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.82% to 22.20 a new 3-months high.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.54% or 0.42 to $77.58 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.59% or 0.47 to hit $80.75 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.40% or 9.75 to trade at $2,437.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.28% to 153.29, while EUR/JPY fell 0.27% to 166.47.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 103.99.
