Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Transport and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 2.02%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202), which rose 7.94% or 50.00 points to trade at 680.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp (TYO:9432) added 5.23% or 219.00 points to end at 4,405.00 and Yamaha Motor Co Ltd (TYO:7272) was up 4.48% or 178.00 points to 4,155.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which fell 6.20% or 232.00 points to trade at 3,512.00 at the close. Nippon Yusen K.K (TYO:9101) declined 1.09% or 35.00 points to end at 3,188.00 and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (TYO:9104) was down 0.68% or 24.00 points to 3,486.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 3050 to 612 and 179 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.67% to 20.00.
Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.44% or 0.30 to $68.00 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.40% or 0.29 to hit $72.80 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.26% or 5.00 to trade at $1,918.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.04% to 144.13, while EUR/JPY fell 0.06% to 157.82.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 102.24.
