Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Mining and Manufacturing sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.83%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which rose 12.69% or 425.0 points to trade at 3775.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2269) added 8.43% or 650.0 points to end at 8360.0 and Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) was up 7.59% or 210.0 points to 2976.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pioneer Corp. (T:6773), which fell 4.12% or 4.0 points to trade at 93.0 at the close. Okuma Corp. (T:6103) declined 2.37% or 140.0 points to end at 5760.0 and Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) was down 2.24% or 13.0 points to 568.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2773 to 745 and 187 ended unchanged.
Shares in Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 12.69% or 425.0 to 3775.0. Shares in Pioneer Corp. (T:6773) fell to all time lows; losing 4.12% or 4.0 to 93.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 7.39% to 24.82.
Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.79% or 0.49 to $62.16 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.79% or 0.57 to hit $72.64 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.38% or 4.70 to trade at $1224.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.16% to 113.70, while EUR/JPY rose 0.29% to 130.08.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 95.94.
