Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.78% to hit a new 3-months high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (T:4183), which rose 8.58% or 191.0 points to trade at 2416.0 at the close. Meanwhile, TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) added 5.44% or 230.0 points to end at 4460.0 and Secom Co., Ltd. (T:9735) was up 5.25% or 504.0 points to 10105.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Yokogawa Electric Corp. (T:6841), which fell 6.50% or 120.0 points to trade at 1725.0 at the close. Kuraray Co., Ltd. (T:3405) declined 5.58% or 66.0 points to end at 1117.0 and JFE Holdings, Inc. (T:5411) was down 3.75% or 31.0 points to 796.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2414 to 1079 and 199 ended unchanged.
Shares in Secom Co., Ltd. (T:9735) rose to 5-year highs; up 5.25% or 504.0 to 10105.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 21.30.
Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.37% or 0.16 to $42.51 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.37% or 0.17 to hit $45.26 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.66% or 12.80 to trade at $1936.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.17% to 106.70, while EUR/JPY rose 0.20% to 126.19.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 93.160.
