Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Machinery, Food and Construction sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.77%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Eisai Co., Ltd. (T:4523), which rose 7.58% or 478.0 points to trade at 6786.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Meidensha Corp. (T:6508) added 5.85% or 22.0 points to end at 398.0 and Kubota Corp. (T:6326) was up 4.98% or 90.5 points to 1906.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kobe Steel, Ltd. (T:5406), which fell 5.67% or 63.0 points to trade at 1048.5 at the close. Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501) declined 2.75% or 11.0 points to end at 389.5 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T:7211) was down 2.18% or 17.0 points to 762.5.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2601 to 816 and 148 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.99% to 24.34.
Crude oil for April delivery was down 0.16% or 0.10 to $61.94 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in May fell 0.11% or 0.07 to hit $65.42 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.09% or 1.20 to trade at $1322.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.21% to 106.59, while EUR/JPY rose 0.02% to 131.50.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 89.92.
