Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.42%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4519), which rose 6.78% or 246.0 points to trade at 3874.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) added 5.14% or 320.0 points to end at 6550.0 and Fanuc Corp. (T:6954) was up 4.06% or 955.0 points to 24500.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (T:8801), which fell 3.69% or 93.5 points to trade at 2443.0 at the close. Sumitomo Realty & Development Co. (T:8830) declined 3.18% or 116.0 points to end at 3528.0 and TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) was down 2.68% or 150.0 points to 5450.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2170 to 1392 and 205 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 28.94.
Crude oil for January delivery was down 0.99% or 0.71 to $71.34 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.84% or 0.63 to hit $74.81 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.33% or 5.95 to trade at $1790.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.20% to 113.35, while EUR/JPY rose 0.00% to 127.96.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 96.175.
