Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Pharmaceutical Industry, Transport and Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.41%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Trend Micro Inc. (T:4704), which rose 5.31% or 270.0 points to trade at 5350.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) added 5.31% or 87.0 points to end at 1724.0 and Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T:6506) was up 5.03% or 165.0 points to 3445.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713), which fell 2.86% or 54.0 points to trade at 1832.5 at the close. Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T:7003) declined 0.74% or 1.0 points to end at 135.0 and DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5714) was down 0.74% or 6.0 points to 803.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2701 to 554 and 210 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T:7003) fell to 52-week lows; losing 0.74% or 1.0 to 135.0. Shares in Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T:6506) rose to all time highs; rising 5.03% or 165.0 to 3445.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 11.68% to 19.22 a new 3-months high.
Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.61% or 0.29 to $47.77 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November fell 0.50% or 0.27 to hit $53.51 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.64% or 8.61 to trade at $1342.59 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.63% to 108.50, while EUR/JPY rose 0.49% to 130.37.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 91.45.
