Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Finance & Investment, Insurance and Communication sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.28% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Teijin Ltd. (TYO:3401), which rose 10.32% or 145.00 points to trade at 1,550.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Lasertec Corp (TYO:6920) added 6.31% or 2,700.00 points to end at 45,470.00 and Renesas Electronics Corp (TYO:6723) was up 5.48% or 148.00 points to 2,849.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Nexon Co Ltd (TYO:3659), which fell 5.64% or 153.00 points to trade at 2,557.50 at the close. Mitsubishi Materials Corp. (TYO:5711) declined 3.55% or 112.00 points to end at 3,040.00 and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) was down 3.26% or 98.50 points to 2,923.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1970 to 1634 and 265 ended unchanged.
Shares in Lasertec Corp (TYO:6920) rose to all time highs; up 6.31% or 2,700.00 to 45,470.00. Shares in Renesas Electronics Corp (TYO:6723) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 5.48% or 148.00 to 2,849.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 17.11.
Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.34% or 0.26 to $77.31 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.22% or 0.18 to hit $81.72 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 1.13% or 27.05 to trade at $2,365.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.08% to 156.65, while EUR/JPY fell 0.06% to 169.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 104.80.
