Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Power, Shipbuilding and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.11%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099), which rose 4.87% or 48.00 points to trade at 1,034.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:4568) added 4.44% or 153.00 points to end at 3,596.00 and Konami Corp. (TYO:9766) was up 4.20% or 300.00 points to 7,440.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506), which fell 5.61% or 255.00 points to trade at 4,290.00 at the close. Toray Industries, Inc. (TYO:3402) declined 5.12% or 38.30 points to end at 709.30 and Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) was down 1.38% or 600.00 points to 42,950.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2817 to 752 and 212 ended unchanged.
Shares in Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:4568) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.44% or 153.00 to 3,596.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.09% to 22.41.
Crude oil for August delivery was down 1.89% or 1.98 to $102.81 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 1.64% or 1.75 to hit $105.27 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.35% or 6.10 to trade at $1,736.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.54% to 136.82, while EUR/JPY fell 0.07% to 138.47.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.46% at 107.32.
