Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Steel, Shipbuilding and Glass sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.06%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were TDK Corp (T:6762), which rose 8.07% or 640.0 points to trade at 8570.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Advantest Corp. (T:6857) added 7.90% or 181.0 points to end at 2473.0 and NEC Corp. (T:6701) was up 7.04% or 240.0 points to 3650.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506), which fell 16.93% or 519.0 points to trade at 2546.0 at the close. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) declined 10.35% or 535.0 points to end at 4635.0 and Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501) was down 7.98% or 58.0 points to 669.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2560 to 944 and 183 ended unchanged.
Shares in NEC Corp. (T:6701) rose to 3-years highs; up 7.04% or 240.0 to 3650.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.65% to 20.19.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.41% or 0.22 to $54.45 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.55% or 0.34 to hit $61.88 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.84% or 11.00 to trade at $1320.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.27% to 108.72, while EUR/JPY fell 0.06% to 125.04.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 94.953.
