Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.02%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nichirei Corp. (T:2871), which rose 6.87% or 182.0 points to trade at 2831.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366) added 6.06% or 20.0 points to end at 350.0 and Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332) was up 5.82% or 34.0 points to 618.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NTT Data Corp. (T:9613), which fell 7.00% or 110.0 points to trade at 1462.0 at the close. Tobu Railway Co., Ltd. (T:9001) declined 3.61% or 140.0 points to end at 3735.0 and Kao Corp. (T:4452) was down 2.07% or 181.0 points to 8581.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2580 to 974 and 219 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 14.88.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.40% or 0.20 to $49.81 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.57% or 0.31 to hit $54.27 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.62% or 9.65 to trade at $1565.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.16% to 109.33, while EUR/JPY fell 0.20% to 120.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 97.845.
