Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Insurance, Precision Instruments and Food sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.00% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were SUMCO Corp. (TYO:3436), which rose 5.89% or 147.00 points to trade at 2,643.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (TYO:5232) added 5.43% or 217.00 points to end at 4,216.00 and Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:4523) was up 4.40% or 292.00 points to 6,926.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mercari Inc (TYO:4385), which fell 3.03% or 72.50 points to trade at 2,324.00 at the close. Fujikura Ltd. (TYO:5803) declined 3.03% or 106.00 points to end at 3,397.00 and Sapporo Holdings Ltd. (TYO:2501) was down 2.27% or 142.00 points to 6,100.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2458 to 1160 and 259 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.83% to 17.79.
Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.72% or 0.59 to $82.69 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.72% or 0.61 to hit $85.69 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.24% or 5.80 to trade at $2,385.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.02% to 161.70, while EUR/JPY rose 0.06% to 175.22.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 104.68.
