Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Machinery, Electrical/Machinery and Glass sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.97% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which rose 11.60% or 153.0 points to trade at 1472.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) added 10.12% or 167.0 points to end at 1817.0 and Minebea Mitsumi Inc (T:6479) was up 6.41% or 107.0 points to 1775.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Nichirei Corp. (T:2871), which fell 2.93% or 90.0 points to trade at 2985.0 at the close. Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4519) declined 2.91% or 190.0 points to end at 6330.0 and Takara Holdings Inc. (T:2531) was down 2.81% or 38.0 points to 1313.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2349 to 1145 and 232 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.06% to 20.42 a new 1-month low.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.94% or 0.50 to $53.63 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.67% or 0.41 to hit $61.50 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.30% or 3.85 to trade at $1283.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.14% to 109.78, while EUR/JPY rose 0.33% to 124.35.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 96.120.
