Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Communication and Transportation Equipment sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.97%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Softbank Corp. (T:9984), which rose 4.52% or 475.0 points to trade at 10987.5 at the close. Meanwhile, Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366) added 4.50% or 36.0 points to end at 836.0 and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (T:9104) was up 4.15% or 119.0 points to 2989.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pioneer Corp. (T:6773), which fell 11.11% or 13.0 points to trade at 104.0 at the close. Advantest Corp. (T:6857) declined 5.39% or 127.0 points to end at 2230.0 and Trend Micro Inc. (T:4704) was down 4.82% or 340.0 points to 6710.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2218 to 1138 and 241 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.12% to 16.31.
Crude oil for October delivery was down 1.39% or 0.98 to $69.39 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November fell 0.87% or 0.69 to hit $79.05 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.07% or 0.90 to trade at $1211.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.17% to 111.46, while EUR/JPY rose 0.13% to 129.56.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 94.88.
