Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Insurance and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.92% to hit a new 5-year high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO:7003), which rose 15.69% or 150.00 points to trade at 1,106.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) added 6.50% or 47.50 points to end at 778.70 and T&D Holdings, Inc. (TYO:8795) was up 6.20% or 146.50 points to 2,511.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Trend Micro Inc. (TYO:4704), which fell 17.20% or 1,500.00 points to trade at 7,221.00 at the close. SUMCO Corp. (TYO:3436) declined 5.25% or 124.00 points to end at 2,239.50 and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) was down 3.20% or 620.00 points to 18,780.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2831 to 875 and 181 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 19.48.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.10% or 0.08 to $78.11 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.08% or 0.07 to hit $82.79 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.00% or 0.10 to trade at $2,014.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.20% to 150.21, while EUR/JPY rose 0.07% to 161.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 104.32.
